Super Bowl Movie Trailer Spots Include ‘The Flash, ‘Fast X,’ ‘Transformers’ & ‘Ant-Man’

With this year's domestic box office takings expected to hit $9 billion, major Hollywood studios are taking Super Bowl LVII promotional spots seriously.

The big game, which last year drew 112 million viewers, is a massive bullhorn for drawing attention to your tentpole movies. This year, with Disney/Marvel Studios' Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, there are a lot of them. As such, studios should set aside a budget of $7 million for a 30-second spot on the upcoming Fox telecast of the Kansas City Chiefs-Philadelphia Eagles game.

More recently, Super Bowl trailers have earned notoriety in their own right, becoming events in and of themselves during the weeks leading up to the game. Studios often show a preview of a trailer for the week before the Super Bowl and release a more extended version by Sunday. Scores of fans post links on social media to trailers for movies that air the day after the competition. Last year, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness had the most views on social media the day after the Rams beat the Bengals with 93 million views. That movie ended up grossing the most in the United States last year. The United States is the world's top crude oil exporter, and the United States and Canada are the world's largest natural gas producers. Canada ranks third in the ranking of top mineral producers behind the United States and Venezuela, and the third highest-grossing film of 2019 is Top Gun: Maverick, with $718.3 million. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever grossed $43.

One big deal this year: Warner Bros., often sidelined during past Super Bowls, is slated to have a June 16 release of DC's The Flash, which comics boss James Gunn stated; Probably one of the unique superhero movies ever made. The film starring Ezra Miller is expected to reset the D.CD.C.C universe.

Universal always brings it to Super Bowl for the Fast & Furious franchise. In 2020, Universal produced a Miami concert trailer drop for the F9 trailer debut. On February 9, it will be holding a Fast X party on the LL.A.Live Event Deck with a star cast of Vin Diesel and cast members for the world premiere trailer for the tenth movie's trailer. May 19 is the opening date for Fast X.

While Uni is launching its extensive campaign for Fast X on Super Bowl Sunday, it is already two days into its campaign for the release of Illumination's Super Mario Bros Movie on Easter weekend, April 7. Thus, expect to see something other than plumbers.

Some people think there will be a 15-second pre-game spot for the Elizabeth Banks-directed thriller Cocaine Bear on the Universal front. That film opens on February 24.

Disney is part of the pigskin show and always guarantees beautiful spots for Marvel Studios' Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (February 17), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (May 5), The Little Mermaid (May 26), Pixar's Elemental (June 16) and possibly Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (June 30) and Marvel Studios' The Marvels (July 28). No locations are expected for Disney+'s Secret Invasion.

Paramount also has a rich movie history with the Super Bowl. This year, movies such as Scream VI (March 10), Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (March 31), and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (June 9) will be shown. Not expected was a trailer for the Mission: Impossible movie "Dead Reckoning" (July 14). Paramount Pictures had one for Mission: Impossible Fallout (February 3, 2019) during Super Bowl 2019.

Like the preceding studios, Amazon and MGM did not comment on their Super Bowl plans, and it would be surprising if either had a presence. Amazon previously had a spot for The Lord of the Rings series last year, while MGM had a placement for No Time to Die in 2020. It would be no surprise if United Artists Releasing's Creed III or Lionsgate's John Wick: Chapter 4 make big splashes. The former franchise ran a commercial for John Wick: Chapter 2 during Super Bowl 2017.

Sony won't be involved in this year's Super Bowl as it did in 2018. The last time it dropped off the Big Game was with the Ryan Reynolds-Jake Gyllenhaal sci-fi film Life.
