James Gunn Explains The "complicated" Reason Will Poulter In 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3'

James Gunn, director of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1-2," explained his reasons for casting Will Poulter in the role, which is complicated by the vocabulary of the character Groot.

James Gunn appears to have a renewed zeal for DC Comics, but he still has the enormous task of completing Marvel's trilogy before rebooting Superman and Batman.

Of course, that trilogy is Guardians of the Galaxy, the third volume due in September. That means not just navigating his beloved characters to their destination - their final destination, in some cases - but also taking the time to introduce new characters to help guide Marvel into its Gunn-less future. Following a post-credits scene in Thor: The Dark World, Marvel fans are waiting for the inevitable arrival of Adam Warlock into the MCU. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Warlock is created by Ayesha, Sovereign leader and High Priestess of a genetically engineered alien race known as Sovereign, to destroy the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Why Was Will Poulter Chosen As Adam Warlock?

However, Gunn feels there's more to a character than simply being an enemy without feeling, which is why Warlock would not exactly be considered an ally on his first encounter with the Guardians. Given that, this is why he favored Adam for the role of Warlock and had Will Poulter, a British actor who had begun acting in comedic and dramatic roles from childhood, play the part.

Gunn previously revealed that Adam is a more traditional superhero. However, he admits that the hero may leverage his advanced superpowers to make him a formidable foe. His clash with the Guardians will make for an interesting juxtaposition to where we've been so far.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" film also stars Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, and Sean Gunn and will hit theaters worldwide on May 5, 2023. Watch the trailer for the movie below.
