Created by 10 months of design work, Tiffany has confirmed that four of their most skilled artisans worked on the final product. “The Kendrick Lamar thorn crown represents the artistry, risk-taking creativity and relentless innovation that have shaped Tiffany & Co. for almost two centuries,” says Arnault of the custom piece, which eventually became the focus of 1,300 hours of diamond work.
The crown’s titanium design weighs around 200 grams and is cast using 14 individual components that are put together. Over 8,000 diamonds were used to craft the custom piece, totaling 50 spikes in different shapes.
The symbolism behind the crown has been a fixture in the current Kendrick era. Most notably, the Kendrick Lamar thorn crown on the cover of the May release Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers .
“The crown is a divine representation of hooded philosophies told from a youthful, digestible prism,” says Free.
